The Scoop:
The green trend has quickly invaded our clothing, homes, automobiles, and yes, even the double-bacon-cheeseburger with pesticide ripened tomatoes on a bleached, white sesame-seed bun. Just when the you think the world couldn't possibly have anymore answers for living a greener, cleaner lifestyle, out comes Greenhouse - a solution for the ultimate in eco-partying.
Greenhouse is the first nightlife destination in New York to seek LEED certification and hop aboard the eco-living train. This means that everything from the building materials and garbage disposal to the energy and water usage has to be regulated and reduced. This expensive feat was accomplished by taking a more radical approach in the building process: using a more sustainable bamboo instead of wood to construct the walls; LED lighting to reduce energy usage; waterless urinals and low-flow toilets to cut down on agua; wind-power for the electricity and the sound system; and 8 varieties of real leaves adorn the walls to improve the air quality, creating a lush oasis. In addition to the club's construction, the staff's uniforms are sustainably made in Africa by Bono's eco-clothing company, and the vodka of choice (360 Vodka) comes in a reusable, recycled bottle.
Greenhouse goes through great detail to define the eco-partying standard; however, they do not deprive you of great partying and customer service. The 6,000 square foot lounge and nightclub features two floors of dope DJs and plenty of celebrity clientele. Everyone from Al Gore to Taye Diggs have had a little taste of the green.
Best Time to Frolic:
Fall to Spring before the majority of the nightclub elite hit the Hamptons for the Summer season.
Insider Tips:
The best resident DJs are on Fridays. Unfortunately, Fridays usually come with the bridge and tunnel crowd.
